Traditional games related with Math

Scuola dell'infanzia Via Monte Spada Quartucciu Italy

Traditional games

Through playing and playing different strategies and skills related to mathematics are implemented.

In our international journey we wanted to offer our partners an ancient game known in Sardinia as Su Barralliccu, which, as often happens, has affinities with other games present in the Mediterranean area.

Playing su barralliccu was a lot of fun and with just a few materials you can recreate the typical square top.

Collaboration with other schools has also allowed us to discover and try out new games suggested by schools in Turkey, Greece, Estonia and Spain.

The Spanish Juego del panuelo in Italy is called flag and requires a great ability to concentrate, listen, respect many rules, spatial vision, readiness and team spirit.
And it's extremely fun.

How funny it is to discover that you can count through a game proposed by Turkey.
Fox, fox what time is it? brings into play our body that listens and counts its steps towards the goal, that is the fox.
Also in Italy we have a similar game called "Regina, reginella" in which it is the queen who indicates the number of steps to reach the castle and the way in which the steps will be taken, i.e. very small like an ant or giant like an elephant etc.

Another game proposed by Turkey, the Game of the Three Stones, allowed us to experiment with our first strategic skills.

We have also created a digital version of this game for you to try.

Pi day with a Number hunt

Scuola dell'infanzia Via Monte Spada Quartucciu Italy

A special day we dedicated to mathematics: the one we can live and experience with our body and in our body, the one we begin to recognize in its symbolic representation,
what we can find in the world around us.
Games, treasure hunts, playful and creative actions with natural elements to discover that mathematics is for everyone!

Today had a meeting and beautiful, book-collaborative actions of the e twinning project #NumberHunters# at the library of Filiatra, where the 80 students from the participating schools of Messinia played with numbers, solved riddles, put together puzzles, made number bookmarks with recyclable materials and contacted their friends Number Hunters from Turkey, Italy, Spain & Estonia.

We thank the manager of the library dear friend and colleague Ms. Garyfalia Terizaki for the hospitality and the beautiful fairy tale of Gianni Rodari "From one to 7" who read us and the Number Hunter teacher Ms. Maria Hondrogiannis for organizing the whole action together with Mrs. Garifalia💝💝💝💝

Playing with an "Alatiera"

In its classic form with folding paper, we make a paper construction where internal surfaces are created, on which we write something good and something bad alternately. For example, characterization or something future. Hence the name of the game in other countries: Fortune Teller
Then one player opens and closes the "Alatiera" as many times as his teammate asked and reads what is written on the side that was opened. It can be a question, asking you to do something, imitate someone, etc.
Paper Fortune Teller 1

Classic template where we fill in the future!!

"Alatiera" can be adapted for any age and for different teaching subjects.

Our own "Alatiera" with numbers, shapes and our favorite animals!!
